Kate Middleton Is Crumbling ‘Behind Closed Doors’ After Major Family Move — Source

Kate Middleton is reportedly feeling emotional as Prince George begins a new chapter at Eton College. The prestigious boarding school was previously attended by his father, Prince William, and his uncle, Prince Harry. While the Prince and Princess of Wales were present to see their eldest son begin his first day, reports suggest Kate is struggling with the milestone as George starts life away from home.

Sources reveal how Prince George’s move is affecting Kate Middleton

According to Closer, Kate Middleton is reportedly heartbroken after Prince George left home to attend Eton College as a boarder. The Prince and Princess of Wales accompanied their eldest son for his first day at the prestigious institution, where they received a warm welcome from the headmaster.

However, a source claimed that Middleton has struggled emotionally with George leaving home, with the milestone also reportedly creating tension between her and Prince William. “Kate is devastated,” the insider said.

The Princess “hides her emotions well in public, but as soon as she’s behind closed doors, she crumbles.” The insider continued, “Eton wasn’t her preferred choice of school for George.” However, Middleton “was prepared to compromise because she understands that, as the future King, he needs to be at an institution that suits his position.”

The insider further added, “Eton only accepts boarders, so it was an incredibly difficult decision for Kate.” As a result, the 44-year-old royal “knew it would be difficult, but it’s been far more emotional than she anticipated.”

George began his first day at Eton on September 8, 2026. According to Star, his parents spent considerable time preparing him for life at the boarding school. “William especially has gone out of his way to ensure George is as prepared as he possibly can be before that all-important first day,” the source said.

The source also claimed that Eton was not Middleton’s first choice, adding, “It’s fairly common knowledge that she would have preferred George to attend a day school.” The decision was described as “a bittersweet situation” for the Princess, who was reportedly struggling “with the fact that George won’t be home every day.”

While “William is sensitive to her anxiety,” the source said he remains confident that Middleton will eventually understand why they chose Eton. Moreover, he reportedly “reminds Kate that George won’t be far away, and that they’ll still see him frequently.”
