Earl Spencer Accused of Timing King Charles Attack Around Harry & Meghan Return — Expert

A royal commentator has reportedly slammed Earl Spencer for launching a verbal attack on King Charles around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK return. For those unversed, the late Princess Diana’s brother has penned a memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, dedicated to her. The book will be released on September 22. However, publications have already released certain controversial excerpts from the book, which has resulted in controversy.

Expert questions Earl Spencer’s timing for King Charles’ attack

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has accused Earl Spencer of targeting King Charles around Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK. As per Express UK, Fitzwilliams criticised Spencer for launching a “brutal and unprovoked attack” on the king at a point when the Sussexes are making news with their return.

Furthermore, the royal commentator called Spencer’s decision “quite extraordinary” for releasing the memoir just one year short of Diana’s 30th death anniversary. Moreover, Fitzwilliams branded Spencer’s allegations about Charles as “damaging” to Diana’s reputation, as these words might get associated with the late princess’ memory.

He also accused Spencer of releasing the memoir around Harry and Meghan’s headline-making return to the UK. For those unversed, ever since the Sussexes have come back, they have been in the news, more so for the wrong reasons.

Whether it is related to renewed attention over their royal status or controversy surrounding a lack of security measures. Moreover, Fitzwilliams revealed that he is convinced that Spencer has used this timing to settle old scores with his former brother-in-law. Not only that, but he might have also harboured a “guilty conscience” of not doing enough to protect his sister.

Fitzwilliams also noted that Spencer and Diana were reportedly estranged at the time of her death. He warned that more explosive claims could emerge while questioning how accurately those allegations reflect what happened. The Daily Mail published an early preview of Spencer’s memoir, in which he recalled a tense phone call with then Prince Charles. Towards the end, as per Spencer, a furious Charles hissed: “Rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough!”
