Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly shocked upon learning of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK. For those unversed, the Sussexes flew privately from California to Birmingham on August 26. The couple reportedly plan on staying in the UK for an extended period of time along with their children. King Charles was reportedly made aware of their plans on August 16. However, the Waleses seemingly had no idea about the Sussexes’ comeback to Britain.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are shocked Prince Harry returned to UK
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly alarmed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent return to the UK. A source explained to US Weekly that the Sussexes’ return was a “shock” to the Waleses. “They’re still processing it, but their initial surprise has evolved, and they’re taking a wait-and-see approach,” the source added.
As per former butler Grant Harrold, William will be keeping a close eye on Harry’s movements to gauge what he does next. The royal source doubled down on Harrold’s words and seemingly confirmed that there was no reunion on the cards. The insider explained that the Prince of Wales is not looking at his brother’s return to the UK as a means to end their longstanding feud.
“If fences do get mended, it will be a slow and private process, and on William’s terms,” the source added. Interestingly, as per Rob Shuter, King Charles issued a letter clarifying the Sussexes’ royal status at the behest of William.
On September 7, a letter authorized by King Charles and sent via the Lord Chamberlain clarified that Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the Royal Family and private citizens. The letter reiterated that there had been no change to their status and that they do not carry out official royal duties. Separately, Rob Shuter claimed that William urged his father to address the uncertainty surrounding the Sussexes’ position.
A royal source on Rob Shuter said William had “enough of the confusion” surrounding Harry and Meghan’s status. According to the source, the message was that “nothing has changed” and that the Sussexes remain outside the working Royal Family. The source also claimed that William’s position demonstrated his growing influence as heir to the throne.
