King Charles Won’t Engage in ‘War of Words’ With Prince Harry & Meghan Markle — Author

King Charles may have said all he intends to say. A royal author claims the monarch will not engage in further exchanges with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after their alleged reaction to a palace letter. The correspondence reminded officials that the couple remains “private citizens” and that their HRH styles are still not in use. Their “surprise” at the way the guidance was handled has since fueled questions about whether tensions with the Royal Family are rising again.

Author claims King Charles won’t be responding further after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle letter

It seems Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were caught off guard by a letter sent on King Charles’ behalf after their return to the UK. The correspondence reportedly reminded senior government and military officials that the Sussexes remain private citizens and are not working members of the Royal Family.

The move apparently came after reports suggested the Sussexes could become more active in Britain. Harry was said to be linked to potential military commitments, while Markle was expected to take part in charitable activities. As per the Daily Mail’s report, royal author Robert Jobson claimed this created what he called “mission creep.”

Thus, Jobson said the palace wanted to make the situation clear. The letter stated that there had been no change to the couple’s status. Their HRH styles also remain in abeyance and are not used. Their charitable work, meanwhile, is considered private rather than official royal activity.

However, the Sussexes seemingly took issue with how quickly the information became public. A spokesperson for the couple said they were “a little surprised” that they had not been informed beforehand. Reports also indicate their team had only limited time to review the correspondence before it was released to the media.

Still, Jobson does not expect Charles to respond to that reaction. The royal author claimed the King “has no intention of being drawn into responding further.” He also pointed to the way the message was delivered. Rather than issuing a media statement, the Palace used the Lord Chamberlain to communicate the clarification directly to relevant officials.

That distinction could be significant. Jobson suggested Charles has little interest in turning the matter into a public exchange. “There won’t be any war of words,” he said, adding that the monarch has “made his position clear.”
