Meghan Markle honored Gloria Steinem with a heartfelt tribute that featured a rare glimpse of Prince Archie. The homage followed the tragic news of the social activist’s death on Wednesday morning, September 2. It marks the Duchess of Sussex’s first public post since relocating to the UK for an “extended” stay.
Prince Archie makes an appearance in Meghan Markle’s Gloria Steinem tribute
Paying tribute to late feminist icon Gloria Steinem, Meghan Markle shared a never-before-seen photo of Prince Archie. The photo was taken at her and Prince Harry’s home in Montecito, California. It captures Steinem reaching out to the young prince, whose face is obscured with a white heart emoji.
The picture was part of an Instagram carousel honoring Steinem. She passed away at age 92 at her home in New York City. In her tribute, the Duchess of Sussex wrote, “Celebrating the life and legacy of my friend and mentor, Gloria Steinem, and also grateful to know that in these last few weeks and days she knew exactly how loved and admired she was.”
The caption continued, “You all know her many accolades and the way in which she helped shape the world for women and all people – ‘we are linked, not ranked’ she would tell me, and the bracelet she gave me said exactly that. I still wear it with pride.”
It added, “Publicly, we did interviews together, called young voters to encourage them to have their voices heard, attended award ceremonies, and brainstormed how to help this beautiful yet complicated world to become more equitable.”
The As Ever founder wrapped up her tribute by recalling Steinem spending Thanksgiving with their family, introducing her to a lifelong friend, and doting on her children. She also remembered her steady guidance during hard times and her witty, wise counsel over a cup of tea.
Per the Daily Express, Meghan Markle and Gloria Steinem reportedly struck up a friendship during the COVID pandemic. In 2023, Steinem presented the “Suits” alum with the Ms. Foundation’s Women of Vision Award. The honor recognized her “global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls.”
