Poor Things, starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, is getting a new streaming home when its run on Netflix comes to an end. The acclaimed 2023 film, which won Stone her second Oscar for Best Actress, is set to arrive on HBO Max as it leaves Netflix. The move gives subscribers another opportunity to watch Yorgos Lanthimos’ film following its Netflix exit.

Mark Ruffalo’s Poor Things is getting a new streaming home following its departure from Netflix. According to TheWrap, the acclaimed film is set to begin streaming on HBO Max on September 7, 2026, the same day it leaves Netflix.
The film follows Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the unconventional scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter. Kept under his care in London, Bella’s development is observed by his student Max McCandles, who later learns about her unusual circumstances. Her life changes when Duncan Wedderburn, a barrister, takes her outside Godwin’s compound.
Away from the controlled environment where she has lived, Bella encounters unfamiliar places and experiences as she learns more about the world around her. Her journey includes experiences involving sexuality and equality as she continues to discover life beyond Godwin’s care.
Emma Stone stars as Bella Baxter and Victoria Blessington, alongside Mark Ruffalo as Duncan Wedderburn. Other cast members include Willem Dafoe as Dr. Godwin Baxter, Ramy Youssef as Max McCandles, Christopher Abbott as Alfie Blessington, and Suzy Bemba as Toinette, among others.
Poor Things was met with strong reviews from critics, earning a 92 percent critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 379 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience rating currently stands at 80 percent. Discussing Film reported, “Poor Things is a wildly entertaining quest for liberation and a true cinematic tour de force that wears its technicolor heart on its sleeve.”
