Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro have joined forces for a creepy Netflix feature. Led by Adam Scott in the lead role, the film is an adaptation of one of author Alex North’s most chilling works.
The film, The Whisper Man, begins streaming on Netflix today. It follows Adam Scott’s Tom Kennedy, a widowed crime writer, who must reach out to his estranged father to look for is eight year old abducted son.
Who Robert De Niro plays in The Whisper Man
Robert De Niro essays the role of Kennedy’s father, the retired detective inspector Pete Willis. While helping Kennedy look for his son, the abduction is inexplicably linked to a serial killer from decades ago, simply known as the Whisper Man.
De Niro revealed that a part of the reason why he was drawn to the film was the fraught relationship that Kennedy had with Pete. Having been a part of his fair share of crime dramas throughout his career, De Niro revealed that the subject of the film felt fresh to him.
De Niro also reflected on getting an opportunity to work with Michael Keaton. While the duo had starred together in a film before (Tarantino’s Jackie Brown), they did not have any scenes together. When asked about how he felt sharing scenes with Keaton, he said, “It was good. He was perfect for it. I don’t even know how it came about, but I was very happy that he was doing it.”
While De Niro enjoyed working with Keaton, one of his co-stars was terrified at the prospect of working with him. Adam Scott revealed that he was anxious about working with a legendary Hollywood figure like Robert De Niro. He said, “This is someone whose picture I had up in my locker in high school.” He continued, “I was terrified to meet him and work with him. Obviously, you just don’t want to be terrible in front of Robert De Niro. That’s all I was trying to do the whole time.”
