As per The Hill‘s report, De Niro opened by describing voting power as central to American democracy. “Power to the people isn’t just a slogan,” he told the crowd. He called it “the founding principle of our nation, guaranteed by the Constitution.”

The actor said powerful people now wanted to reduce voters’ influence. “Now there are people, powerful people, who we’ve empowered,” De Niro said. He then asked whether Americans would allow that to happen.

De Niro urged attendees to vote early during the upcoming elections. He also encouraged them to involve family, friends, neighbors, and others. “First, we’re going to vote, and we’re going to vote early,” he said.

His remarks then shifted toward Trump and the administration’s policies. De Niro claimed those policies were increasingly unpopular among voters. “They try to take our votes away,” he said.

The actor then launched into a profanity-laced attack against Trump. “And when that coward, that f—ing piece of s—, Donald Trump,” De Niro said. He accused Trump of trying to take away Americans’ “voice and power.”

De Niro also led the crowd in repeated calls to protect voting rights. “Keep your f—ing hands off our vote!” he exclaimed. The audience echoed his message throughout the rally.

The New York rally also featured fellow actor Mark Ruffalo. Ruffalo discussed election security and urged attendees to remain engaged. He called the 2026 midterms “one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes.”

De Niro concluded his speech with another direct appeal to voters. “Take back the House. Take back the Senate. Take back the power,” he said. He also urged the crowd to “Take back our country.”

De Niro has frequently criticized Trump publicly over the years. Trump has also repeatedly attacked the actor in response. Their political clashes have continued as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
