A crime thriller starring Danny Trejo and Natalie Portman is now streaming on Netflix. Originally released in 1995, the film is drawing renewed attention as its follow-up moves forward.
Michael Mann’s Heat is now available on Netflix. The crime thriller follows a crew of professional thieves who start to feel the heat from the LAPD after inadvertently leaving a verbal clue during their latest heist.
Al Pacino stars as LAPD Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, Robert De Niro as thief Neil McCauley, Trejo as Gilbert Trejo, and Portman as Lauren, Hanna’s stepdaughter. The ensemble also includes Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore, and Diane Venora, among others.
The film’s arrival on Netflix comes as Mann develops a follow-up film. Heat 2 is set to feature Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Stephen Graham. Based on Mann’s 2022 novel of the same name, the sequel will tell a story that functions as both a prequel and a sequel to the 1995 film.

How Heat brought together Al Pacino & Robert De Niro for a cinematic showdown
Although Pacino and De Niro both appeared in The Godfather Part II, their characters did not share a scene. Their first shared scene became one of the most memorable sequences in cinema history.
In Heat, the face-to-face meeting between Hanna and McCauley becomes a psychological duel. Until their diner meeting, the detective and the thief study each other from opposite sides of the law. Things take a turn when Hanna stops McCauley on the highway and invites him to talk over coffee.
During this scene, the two adversaries speak candidly about their personal lives, careers, and the sacrifices their professions demand. They also acknowledge that they would kill the other if a situation calls for it.
The scene’s naturalistic feel reflects the actors’ restrained performances. Fans can now revisit the actors’ landmark shared scene in Heat on Netflix.
