MGM+’s The Westies might have just wrapped up its first season, but updates on Season 2 have already started coming from the show’s cast and creators. The crime drama recently ended Season 1 on an explosive note, leaving ample room for more installments to follow.
The Westies cast and creators are already teasing Season 2
In a recent interview with Collider, co-creator of The Westies Chris Brancato hinted at a bright future for the MGM+ series without giving away any specifics.
“We haven’t seen the last of Eamon Sweeney, so there will be challenges for Jimmy Roarke, regardless of what his position is within the Westies. I don’t think JK is going to give up his throne too easily,” Chris Brancato remarked, adding, “We have lots of grist for the mill for a subsequent season.”
He further noted, “Typically, these days, a series goes three, four, five seasons, and we would very much like to do that here. We feel confident there will be another season of the show.” Additionally, when asked about a massive reveal regarding Titus Welliver’s character in The Westies, fellow co-creator Michael Panes said, “You’ll have to keep watching Season 2 to find out.”
In The Westies’ Season 1 finale, Jimmy Roarke, played by Tom Brittney, manages to carry out a successful coup against his mentor Eamon Sweeney, played by JK Simmons, resulting in the latter’s incarceration.
“We both have specific ideas that we don’t want to divulge,” said Simmons when speaking about the potential for The Westies Season 2. “Obviously, we’re hoping there’s a second season, and hoping there’s more beyond that.”
Brittney gave a similar reply, stating, “Every single one has a thread that’s left open, and that’s not closed. I think it’ll be an exciting prospect for people to see where it goes and what hijinks they get up to.”
Despite the updates, MGM+ has yet to officially greenlight The Westies for Season 2.
