The Last House has become a huge streaming hit on Netflix. It has secured the top spot on the streamer’s weekly list, achieving huge viewership gains after its epic promotional stunt earlier this month.
The sci-fi movie directed by Louis Leterrier debuted at number one on Netflix’s English-language film list for the August 3-9 week. The Last House reached the top of the list, with 27.5 million views since its release on August 7, 2026. Although the movie has reached this milestone, it currently sits with a low Tomatometer of 27% and a Popcornmeter score of 28% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The second spot on the streamer’s top 10 list is taken by Kevin Hart’s comedy 72 Hours. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and Homecoming have secured the third and fourth places on the list for the week. The true-crime documentary, A Toxic Love Story, based on the bizarre 2016 California case about a newlywed couple and an ex-girlfriend, has earned the fifth spot on Netflix’s top 10 list.
The sixth through tenth place on the list are taken up by KPop Demon Hunters, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Minions, Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours, and Fast Charlie, respectively.
What is The Last House about?
This large amount of attention for Leterrier’s new horror flick came from their promotion stunt where they trapped a performer for three whole days on a giant Netflix billboard in Los Angeles. During this promotion, the performer stayed within a billboard featuring a fully furnished living room and interacted with passersby using a whiteboard.
In the movie, Ann and Jason are trapped in a house with their children. The family cannot escape as an unexplained force keeps them locked in. With their supplies disappearing, their safest place turns into a ticking time bomb. The family of four must fight together against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat.
The cast includes Greta Lee, Wagner Moura, Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa. Matthew Robinson wrote the screenplay. Leterrier also served as producer alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson.
