Mutiny Marketing Goes Overboard With a Giant Jason Statham on the Thames & More

Lionsgate just dropped a 40-foot Jason Statham on the River Thames, and it’s only the beginning. The studio’s marketing campaign for the upcoming action thriller Mutiny features an inflatable giant, a U.S. boat screening, and more unconventional promotional stunts.

Jason Statham’s Mutiny marketing is like no other movie before

Lionsgate has launched an aggressive marketing campaign for Jason Statham’s upcoming action thriller, Mutiny. As part of the push, the studio placed a 40-foot inflatable Statham by London’s Tower Bridge on the River Thames.

Shortly after, the official Mutiny movie account posted the stunt on X on August 3. “Jason Statham doesn’t do small,” the account wrote alongside a video of the reveal. “MU[TINY] has taken over the River Thames and it’s just getting started.” Since then, the post has already accumulated over 2.5 million views.

Statham himself appeared in the promotional clip, delivering tongue-in-cheek commentary about the giant balloon. “They said, ‘How big do you want it?’ I said, ‘Surprise me,'” Statham quipped in the video. He jokingly criticized a smaller version before the full-sized balloon appeared. “I think I should have been a bit clearer,” he added. “They say size matters. Damn right it does.”

The campaign extends beyond London with a special boat screening held in the United States. Lionsgate also partnered with influencers on X to amplify the film’s reach. The promotional push includes a creative ASCII art post spelling out “STATHAM” on the movie’s official account. That post directed followers to purchase tickets through the film’s official website.

Directed by Jean-François Richet, Mutiny stars Statham as Cole Reed, a man framed for his billionaire boss’s murder. Subsequently, he boards a cargo ship to seek vengeance and uncovers an international conspiracy. Meanwhile, the cast includes Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, and Adrian Lester alongside Statham.

Sky Cinema’s Andrew Orr praised the partnership in a statement about the film. “Our audience loves premium action films and Mutiny delivers on every level,” Orr said. Mutiny opens in theaters on August 21 in both the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
