Mitt Romney Seemingly Shaded Donald Trump With Age Comment

Former United States Senator Mitt Romney recently threw shade at Donald Trump‘s age while discussing a possible presidential run. Romney is known as one of the most vocal critics of the President. The comment comes after Trump recently celebrated his 80th birthday on June 14.

Mitt Romney, 79, said leaders over 80 should not run the country

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney recently took a possible jibe at Donald Trump‘s age while speaking to host McKay Coppins on Deseret Voices.

McKay asked Romney if he would be up to running for President in 2028. However, Romney called on the younger generation to step up and take on political roles, while seemingly taking a jab at Trump’s age. He said, “I basically think people who are 80 and above really should not be running the world or running the country.”

The politician further joked about a possible presidential campaign and stated, “The reality is, sure, I’d love to do it again, and this time I might get it right, you know? Third time’s the charm.” Romney previously ran for President in 2008 and 2012.

He also commented on a President being at a disadvantage in old age and shared a reference from Bill Bryson’s book ‘The Body.’ Romney asserted, “He (Bill) points out that the human brain shrinks by 20 percent by the time you’re 80 years of age.”

Trump is currently the oldest sitting President of the United States. He has also been under severe criticism since his 3-hour medical visit to Walter Reed in May.

In 2020, Romney criticized Trump, stating that his voters want Trump’s policies and principles to be followed. He further conveyed that Trump is not going to go away from politics anytime soon. Romney added, “He’s the 900lb gorilla when it comes to the Republican party.” (via the Guardian)
