Emmy-Nominated SNL & Girls Star Louise Lasser Passes Away

Louise Lasser has passed away. The actress worked in various theater productions, films, and TV shows, with her last appearance being in the HBO series Girls.

Lasser died at the age of 87 on July 7, 2026, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Lasser is survived by her longtime partner, Michael Citriniti, with whom she shared one of her later screen credits in 2018’s Did You Know My Husband?

Born in November 1939, Lasser made her Broadway debut in 1962’s musical I Can Get It for You Wholesale. She later married filmmaker Woody Allen, though the marriage ended in 1970. During that period, she appeared in What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, The Laughmakers, and other productions, while also making appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Lasser also appeared in an episode of the first season of Saturday Night Live in 1976. She also appeared in other Woody Allen productions, including Take the Money and Run, Bananas, and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask).

Lasser portrayed the titular character in the soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy nomination. Lasser later appeared in films like Stardust Memories, Sing, Crimewave, Requiem for a Dream, and more. Following a short hiatus, Lasser appeared on the HBO series Girls as Beadie in a guest role. Her final screen credit came in the 2022 film Funny Pages.

Girls creator Lena Dunham paid tribute to the star on social media, calling her “a canon, the prototype.” “She was struggling physically, but her mind was something wild to behold,” added Dunham. “I will remember her, lit as she requested and rewriting all her lines, as one of the best to ever do it. Rest in power dear Louise, and thank you for all you gave us, on our set and over your whole career.”

ComingSoon sends condolences to Lasser’s friends and family at this time.
