Donald Trump made an eyebrow-raising statement about communism in a speech on Friday. The president said he’d be the “greatest communist in history” while addressing a notable Christian political group.
Donald Trump makes communist jokes after NYC election
Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Policy Conference on Friday, Donald Trump said he’d be “The Greatest Communist in History.” The president also labelled Democrats as “godless Communists,” saying they are “the most serious threat to our Country since its founding 250 years ago.”
During his speech, Trump stated, “As you saw with the communists elected in New York City recently, they’re communists. They’re not social democrats.” He said, “They want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life. Communism is very easy to sell. It destroys everything, but it’s very easy.” Trump then made an unexpected remark, saying, “I’ll be honest, I think I’d be the greatest communist in history.”
“The problem is, a couple of years go by, the whole place collapses. Always does, always has,” Trump continued. “Assassinations of those who oppose them is a very important element of their ideology. Assassination is a big deal for them. They’re animals, they’re animals.”
The POTUS added, “In many cases they’re not smart, but in some cases they are. It’s easy to get followers because they make promises that they know they can’t keep, and the [establishment] Democrats aren’t fighting back. That’s why they’re dumb.”
Trump’s comments come after several congressional primary wins in the New York City election by candidates backed by NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America’s branch in the city.
The Democratic primaries of New York on Tuesday saw former NYC comptroller Brad Lander and local organizer Darializa Avila Chevalier defeat incumbent Democratic Reps. Dan Goldman and Adriano Espaillat. In a recent interview on MS NOW, Chevalier stated that she is “proud to be able to say” that she will not “respond to” claims labelling her as a communist.
