Knicks Star Has a Request for Taylor Swift Fans After Game 4 Hot Mic Diss

A Knicks star used his championship celebration to defend a broadcaster targeted by Swift fans. He urged Swifties to ease up after a comment about Taylor Swift sparked backlash. He also made time to address a controversy that had been circulating online for days.

The New York Knicks finally ended their 53-year title drought, beating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 to win the NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson delivered 45 points in the deciding game and earned Finals MVP honors. But after the celebrations, he shifted attention to something completely different: the online criticism directed at broadcaster Monica McNutt.

During a postgame interview with McNutt, Brunson took a moment to speak directly to Taylor Swift’s fanbase. Pointing toward the analyst, he said, “I just want to say something to the Swifties. She’s a really good one. Cut her some slack. It’s all good, I promise.”

The controversy began after McNutt was caught on a hot mic during Game 4 at Madison Square Garden. After noticing Swift sitting courtside, she quipped, “She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here, girl.” The remark quickly made the rounds online, with many of the singer’s fans responding by sharing photos of Swift supporting the Knicks over the years.

McNutt later acknowledged she had gotten it wrong. Speaking with TMZ, she admitted that Swift even owned an Amar’e Stoudemire jersey and applauded the pop star for remaining loyal to the Knicks through some difficult years. “So shout out to her because that means she’s been in the trenches,” she said.

At this point, Taylor Swift’s Knicks fandom isn’t really up for debate anymore. She’s joined a star-studded club of celebrity supporters that already includes Spike Lee, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler and Timothée Chalamet. Knicks star Jalen Brunson has made it clear that his personal MVP in the celebrity section is Law & Order: SVU icon Mariska Hargitay.
