Netflix has released a heartfelt new trailer for Little House on the Prairie. The upcoming show will adapt Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books once more, following the original Little House television films.
The show’s synopsis reads, “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

What do we see in the Little House on the Prairie trailer?
The trailer starts with the Ingalls arriving at the Kansas prairie and settling into their new life. However, not all is cheerful, as the family faces challenges. These include nefarious neighbors, the Osage people, new illnesses, wolves, and more. The Ingalls wonder whether enduring these hardships will ultimately lead to a better life. Crosby Fitzgerald’s Caroline Ingalls asks her husband, “What if this is where we finally become who we were meant to be? How will we ever know until we try?”
The Little House series, based on author Laura Ingalls’ life, has sold over 73 million copies worldwide since the first book’s publication in 1932. The original series consists of nine books.
The show was created by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who also serves as showrunner. Sonnenshine is joined by Francesca Butler, P. Carter Kristensen, Adam Starks, Eleanor Burgess, and Tom Hanada in the writers’ room.
“I always like to say that this show is a love story about a family. They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with,” Sonnenshine told Tudum. “That’s really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves.”
Netflix has also renewed the show for a Season 2, which has already cast a key role. The second season will introduce Nellie Oleson, Laura’s “ultimate rival.” Charlotte Sullivan and Rachelle Lefevre have also joined the second season’s cast.
Little House on the Prairie stars Alice Halsey, Skywalker Hughes, Luke Bracey, and Crosby Fitzgerald. Its recurring cast includes Jocko Sims, Meegwun Fairbrother, Ryan Robbins, Barrett Doss, Mary Holland, Michael Hough, Kowen Cadorath, Thosh Collins, Maclean Fish, Rebecca Amzallag, and Xander Cole.
Netflix has also revealed the list of writers and directors working on the show. Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, and Sydney Freeland are directing the episodes.
Executive producers for Little House on the Prairie include Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions, and Dana Fox. Friendly’s father, Ed Friendly, produced the Little House television films and series on NBC from 1974 to 1984. CBS Studios and Anonymous Content produce Little House on the Prairie.
Little House on the Prairie Season 1 will be released on Netflix on July 9, 2026.
