The Social Reckoning Trailer Previews Jeremy Strong’s Social Network Sequel Movie

The first trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning is here, with Jeremy Strong playing Mark Zuckerberg. The film follows the real-life events of 2021, focusing on whistleblower Frances Haugen and The Wall Street Journal’s exposé of Facebook’s operations. The film will also deal with the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

The film’s synopsis reads, “A companion piece to the hit film The Social Network, Sorkin’s original screenplay is based on the events that gave rise to the Wall Street Journal’s shocking exposé The Facebook Files. The film is inspired by the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.”

What do we see in The Social Reckoning trailer?

The trailer starts with Mikey Madison’s character, Haugen, meeting with Jeremy Allen White’s Jeff Horwitz to reveal Facebook’s secrets. Haugen tells Horwitz that she wants to help Facebook by revealing what information she has, and not hurt the company. The footage then cuts to Zuckerberg training for a hearing. “The firehose of bad information you are injecting into the air supply is becoming jet-powered,” Bill Burr’s character tells Zuckerberg. “I’m a free speech absolutist. I’m not the one who’s lying, and I’m not stopping them from seeing someone who is,” replies the tech CEO.

A version of the trailer was previously shown to attendees at CinemaCon earlier this year. The Social Reckoning isn’t the only upcoming film to feature a version of Zuckerberg. Doug Liman’s new film Bitcoin will satirize the Facebook creator, along with other influential figures.

The film stars Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, and Jeremy Strong. The Social Reckoning is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. The film is produced by Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. It is executive-produced by Lauren Lohman, Roger McNamee, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Broderick Johnson, and Andrew A. Kosove.

The Social Reckoning releases in theaters on October 9, 2026, almost exactly 16 years after the original film.
