Donald Trump‘s administration has faced widespread criticism over its use of Gen Z slang in several social media posts. Most recently, the Interior Department used the language while announcing the regilding of the horse statues. Before that, the White House was also trolled for using a popular Gen Z term while comparing the height of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to most skyscrapers.
Donald Trump’s administration is being called out for usage of slang terms
The US Department of the Interior took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an update on covering the four horse statues with a fresh coat of gold. They wrote, “We’re auramaxxing Washington, D.C. ahead of America’s 250th birthday. @SecretaryBurgum recently ordered the massive Arts of War and Arts of Peace equestrian statues for regilding for the first time since 1971.” They further stated that the revamp is a part of the POTUS’s efforts to make the capital beautiful and safe.
The post received mixed reactions from the public, as many also criticized the account for using Gen Z slang for the announcement. A user wrote, “This administration is literally not serious. The fact that they’re actually saying ‘auramaxxing’ makes it so tacky , cringe, and repulsive already. Congrats, you tried too hard and of course, because you’re filled with a bunch of spiritual boomers, are unrelatable.” Another wrote as they shared the screen grab of the meaning of the term, “Oh FFS. You are neither serious nor intelligent people.”
Other reactions included “It’s embarassing that the federal government is using teen speak to talk about its accomplishments,” and “I’m already getting annoyed by people adding MAXXING TO WORDS.”
Before this, the White House took to X to share a picture of Donald Trump holding a board that claimed that the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is bigger in height than skyscrapers. The caption read, “mogged.” At the time, too, the administration was met with similar criticism.
