Hemsworth confirmed that he has completed production on Kockroach, which currently has no release date. To celebrate, he shared a series of black-and-white grainy stills on Instagram featuring himself and the other cast members.

“That’s a wrap on our film Kockroach. Quite possibly the most fun I’ve had on a set,” he captioned his post. “Amazing cast and crew and one hell of a wild script! Can’t wait for you to see it !!”

Filming began two months ago in the actor’s native Australia, with Sydney, New South Wales, reportedly doubling for New York City (via Screen NSW).

Matt Ross, who previously wrote and directed Viggo Mortensen’s Captain Fantastic, directed it. Meanwhile, Bored to Death creator Jonathan Ames wrote the screenplay.

Kockroach is an adaptation of William Lashner’s 2007 novel of the same name, which he wrote under the name Tyler Knox. Set against the backdrop of New York’s criminal underworld, the story follows a stranger who transforms into a larger-than-life crime boss.

In addition to Hemsworth, the film will feature Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, Alec Baldwin, Rachel Sennott, and Brian Geraghty. Channing Tatum and Oscar Isaac were reportedly originally attached before dropping out due to scheduling conflicts and being replaced by Hemsworth and Egerton, respectively.

Aside from Kockroach, Hemsworth currently has Subversion in the pipeline (via The Hollywood Reporter). He last appeared in Bart Layton’s crime thriller, Crime 101, starring opposite fellow MCU star Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry. Based on Don Winslow’s 2020 novella, he played Mike, a jewel thief who commits robberies across U.S. Highway 101.

The Australian actor is now awaiting the release of Avengers: Doomsday, where he will reprise his role as Thor. Premiering on December 18, 2026, it will also feature Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and other returning MCU actors.
