Early reviews for the new Guy Ritchie movie In the Grey have left critics divided. While several reviewers have praised the film’s action scenes, the cast’s chemistry, and the movie’s overall entertainment factor, others have criticized the thriller for its execution.
In the Grey draws mixed reviews from critics
Early reactions to In the Grey have shown a divided response from critics, with some reviewers praising the film’s cast and action while also questioning its memorability.
Peter Gray of AU Review noted the film’s similarities to Guy Ritchie’s previous work. “Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey feels like the filmmaker maintaining the exact groove he knows best — fast-talking criminals, swaggering operatives, tangled negotiations, and men who communicate affection through insults, loyalty, and violence,” Gray wrote.
Juanma Fernández Paris of El Nuevo Día offered a more mixed reaction, writing that the film “spends almost ninety minutes flirting with its potential, but ends before it can truly achieve it.” Paris further noted that the thriller carries “Ritchie’s typical touch: a simple dramatic core with complicated execution.”
Danielle Solzman of Solzy At The Movies highlighted the film’s action scenes and the performances from the main cast. “As with any action thriller, there is plenty of action to satisfy fans. This is where Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, and the covert ops team work their magic in In the Grey,” she wrote. However, Solzman ultimately described the film as “a solid but not-quite-memorable entry in Guy Ritchie’s filmography,” adding that “the execution never quite sharpens into something memorable.”
Reviewer Zach Pope praised the chemistry between Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal, while complimenting Eiza González for bringing “really badass energy” to the film. Summing up his thoughts, Pope concluded, “I liked it for what it had. It was a fun little mission, and it’s a heist mission, and I’m for that.”
