All 4 Seasons of 2016’s Netflix Original Are Leaving the Platform Soon

All four seasons of a Netflix Original coming-of-age drama are scheduled to depart from the platform later next month. Degrassi: Next Class is a spin-off of an iconic Canadian television franchise that premiered back in the late 1970s, exploring the lives of high school students in Toronto.

Degrassi: Next Class is leaving Netflix in June

Netflix subscribers won’t be able to stream Degrassi: Next Class Seasons 1-4 on the platform from Tuesday, June 30, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).

The series is based on the titular franchise, created by Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler. Degrassi: Next Class is the fifth spin-off and a direct sequel to Degrassi: The Next Generation, which notably featured the Canadian rapper Drake.

Following The Next Generation’s cancellation, the showrunners signed a deal with Netflix, making Next Class an original series for the streamer. It premiered on January 3, 2016, and new episodes were released every day. The subsequent three seasons arrived with six-month intervals, concluding the series within two years. Due to undisclosed reasons, the streamer canceled the show after Season 4. Its finale, titled “#KThxBye,” aired on Jul 14, 2017.

Similar to previous entries, Next Class follows a group of high school students at Degrassi Community School in Toronto. The spin-off’s story revolves around their personal lives as they navigate issues like pregnancy, mental health, sexuality, racism, and other social issues.

Sarah Glinski and Matt Huether served as showrunners, sharing creator credits with Schuyler, Stephen Stohn, and Yan Moore. The show features an ensemble cast that includes Na’ku’set Gould, Amanda Arcurim, Sara Waisglass, Ehren Kassam, Ricardo Hoyos, Eric Osborne, Ana Golja, and Olivia Scriven, among others.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Degrassi: Next Class currently has only user ratings, which stand at 44%. On IMDb, it currently holds a comparatively higher score of 6.8.

In 2025, the documentary film Degrassi: Whatever It Takes premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It showcased interviews with several cast members and the show’s creators.

Netflix subscribers have until the end of next month to stream the series on the platform.
