Jim Carrey’s Ex-Wife Comments on Viral ‘Clone’ Theories

In February, the internet went wild with theories suggesting that Jim Carrey had been replaced by an impersonator or even a clone, after the actor appeared noticeably different while attending the 51st annual César Awards in Paris. Carrey’s ex-wife, Jenny McCarthy, addressed the rumors during her appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.

After the internet speculated long and hard about Jim Carrey being replaced by an impersonator or “clone,” his ex-wife, Jenny McCarthy, stated that it was indeed Carrey who appeared at the 51st annual César Awards in Paris. She also said that he looked very happy.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26, 2026, McCarthy, who was married to Carrey for five years, said, “It was definitely Jim Carrey.” She added that his happiness stood out to her more than the physical differences that netizens had speculated about.

“He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him,” McCarthy said. “That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.'”

McCarthy’s current husband, Donnie Wahlberg, also commented on the situation. He added, “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss. We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”

Carrey’s recent public appearances have been limited, which may have contributed to the online rumors. He last appeared in public when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025. At the time, no such theories surfaced.

Carrey attended the César Awards to accept an honorary award recognizing his contributions to film and television. The Truman Show star delivered his entire speech in French. Grégory Caulier, the general delegate of France’s César Awards, said that Carrey was so touched by the gesture that he worked for months preparing his speech.

Meanwhile, the clone theories continue circulating online.
