New Happy Death Day 3 Update Is Great News

Fans of the time-loop slasher series have been waiting years for news about Happy Death Day 3. That wait just got a little easier, thanks to a promising update from the franchise’s leading lady.

Jessica Rothe shares major update for Happy Death Day 3

Jessica Rothe, who plays the resilient Tree Gelbman, has confirmed that writer-director Christopher Landon already has the next chapter fully mapped out. During a recent interview with ScreenRant, Rothe revealed that the creative foundation for Happy Death Day 3 is solid, even though the production logistics are still being finalized.

“I think that is the power of zeitgeist. I think the more we ask, and the more we put it into the universe, it will happen,” Rothe shared. “Because the truth is, Chris Landon, our brilliant, fearless writer/director, he has the whole third one figured out.”

The first film, released in 2017, introduced audiences to Tree, a college student forced to relive her birthday and her murder until she can identify her killer. The 2019 sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, expanded the mythology by introducing parallel universes and time-altering experiments. A third installment would presumably conclude Tree’s arc, which remains unresolved.

Jessice Rothe expressed unwavering commitment to returning to the role, regardless of how long it takes. She drew a comparison to Jamie Lee Curtis’s legacy return to the Halloween franchise, making it clear that her dedication to the character and story will not fade with time.

“I think at this point, it’s just logistics, and all I’ll say to you and the fans is, whether it’s next year or when I’m 65, pulling a Jamie Lee Curtis coming back for ‘Halloween,’ I will be there to finish Tree’s story,” she said. “So, it’s just a matter of when they get all their ducks in a row.”

Rothe also floated an exciting possibility for a crossover that would unite characters from Happy Death Day with those from his other Landon-directed films.

For now, Happy Death Day 3 remains in a state of waiting.
