Ryan Gosling recently appeared on the Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote his film Project Hail Mary. During the interview, he spoke about his childhood and revealed his love for Days of Our Lives.

Gosling said he often stayed home as a kid and watched TV instead of going out. “I didn’t have a lot of friends growing up. I had TV. I used to stay home. I used to pretend to be sick so I could stay home.”

He shared that Days of Our Lives was one of his favorite shows and praised soap opera actors for their hard work. “They do not get the love they deserve. The amount they have to memorize the night before like 10 pages of dialogue. They get one take,” he explained.

Gosling also specifically praised Deidre Hall and her performance on the show. He recalled her famous possession storyline. “Deidre Hall. Gets possessed. This is right around when X-Files was a big deal, right? Suddenly everything got supernatural. She was possessed by the devil.”

He continued, “So she Deidre Hall is suddenly, after playing, you know, just a normal person. Then she’s got to have the and then it’s like, or it’s like somebody’s dead and now they’re back, or they’re and then they’re a different actor, and they come out of the show, you know.”

He added, “It was an incredible acting class. You know, anyway, so I love I’m saying, What’s amazing is I remember that thinking, like, God, Deidre Hall is a great actress because she’s having to act possessed right now.”

He even joked about how his life somehow keeps connecting with that storyline. The admiration was clear. And it didn’t go unnoticed. Following his comments, Deidre Hall responded. She invited Gosling to visit the Days of Our Lives set.

“We think it would be nice if you wanted to come over and see what we do in our neck of the woods,” she said. “So this is an open invitation to visit the Days of Our Lives set. Nobody will be possessed. And if they are, I’ll keep an eye on you.”

Meanwhile, Gosling is busy promoting Project Hail Mary, which has already crossed over 150 million worldwide. The film also features Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub.
