Ryan Gosling’s critically acclaimed comedy-drama Lars and the Real Girl is set to return to the streaming spotlight. Nearly two decades after its theatrical release, the film is heading to Prime Video, giving audiences another chance to revisit the film. On release, the film earned strong reviews from critics but underperformed commercially.

Lars and the Real Girl will stream on Prime Video throughout July

The acclaimed drama Lars and the Real Girl, starring Ryan Gosling, is set to find a new streaming home on Prime Video. According to TV Guide, the film will begin streaming on the platform on July 1, 2026.

Craig Gillespie directed Lars and the Real Girl from a screenplay by Nancy Oliver. The comedy-drama premiered in the United States on October 12, 2007. Set in a close-knit small town, the film centers on Lars Lindstrom, an exceptionally reserved young man who struggles to build relationships with those around him.

Concerned about his isolation, his brother and sister-in-law are relieved when Lars announces that he has met someone online. However, their optimism quickly fades when they learn that his new companion is Bianca, a life-sized doll he purchased over the internet. Encouraged by a doctor’s recommendation, everyone around Lars agrees to acknowledge Bianca as part of his reality.

Gosling stars as Lars Lindstrom, with Emily Mortimer portraying Karin Lindstrom and Paul Schneider playing Gus Lindstrom. The movie’s ensemble cast also includes R. D. Reid as Reverend Bock, Kelli Garner as Margo, and Nancy Beatty as Mrs. Gruner, among others.

Despite falling short of expectations at the box office, Lars and the Real Girl was well received by critics. The film holds an 81 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 137 reviews, while audiences have given it an 84 percent rating. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned approximately $11.2 million worldwide, including about $5.9 million from domestic theaters.
