Apple TV’s New Star-Filled Series Draws Abysmal Reviews & RT Score

A new thriller show led by Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington is drawing mixed reactions from critics. The series has started its run with lukewarm reviews and an uninspiring score on Rotten Tomatoes.

What critics are saying about Imperfect Women in reviews

The Apple TV+ drama Imperfect Women centers on a complicated group of friends whose lives change after a mysterious death. The cast features Moss and Washington alongside Kate Mara, Jill Wagner, Joel Kinnaman, and Rome Flynn. While the show aims to combine suspense with emotional drama, critics say the result feels familiar compared with other streaming mysteries.

Some reviewers argue the series struggles to stand out in a crowded genre. Jen Chaney of TV Guide wrote that Imperfect Women “doesn’t distinguish itself, in style or substance, from the many, many other streaming entries,” chasing the same audience interested in stylish murder mysteries. The comment reflects a wider criticism that the show follows a formula already seen many times before.

Others felt the timing of the show’s release also works against it. Daniel Fienberg from The Hollywood Reporter noted that the series arrives “so late” in a genre that has already produced numerous similar stories. He wrote that the show’s “generic blandness feels more offensive than jagged ineptitude,” suggesting it lacks a unique voice.

However, not all responses were negative. Katie Doll from CBR said the show works best as a character-driven drama about friendship. She described it as “an engrossing drama that perfectly embodies the highs and lows of female friendships.” Brittany Frederick of TVBrittanyF.com also praised the performances, calling the cast strong enough to deliver the show’s emotional twists.

Further, Nick Schager from The Daily Beast noted that viewers who enjoy scandal-filled friendship dramas might still find the series entertaining, even if the story’s “lack of originality.”

Imperfect Women gets a poor score on Rotten Tomatoes

Despite some praise for the acting, the overall critical reception remains poor. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season currently holds a 50 percent score on the Tomatometer. That rating reflects the split opinions among reviewers.
