As of writing, The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 has a critical score of 43% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Drawn from seven reviews, this is slightly better than the critical score of the previous installment, 41%. However, this could change once more reviews come in. Notably, the audience score for the same is 48%. Overall, the series has a critical score of 42%.

Meanwhile, on Metacritic, Season 2 has a Metascore of 57, taken from four critical reviews, denoting “mixed or average” reception. This is higher than the Metascore of Season 1, which is 49, also pointing to the same type of reception. Notably, Season 1’s user score is also a “mixed or average” 4.7.

Combining the scores of Seasons 1 and 2, the show has a “mixed or average” Metascore of 50 and a user score of 4.8.

A majority of reviews lambast the second season of Jennifer Garner’s new series for being illogical, forgettable, and unwatchable. Peter Travers of The Travers Take says in his review, “The last thing I’ll tell you about season two of ‘The Last Thing He Told Me’ is it wouldn’t hurt to skip it.”

Meanwhile, Cristina Escobar of Roger Ebert stresses that the show would only work for viewers who can “suspend disbelief” and accept that the characters are both “the smartest/most-talented people” and the “stupidest.” She adds, “To even approach ‘The Last Thing He Told Me,’ you have to turn off the part of your brain that looks at the beautiful cast with their recovered memories and penchant for burner phones and says, ‘This makes no sense.’”

She also emphasizes that the show doesn’t require great attention while watching. The reviewer notes it is “the type of thing you enjoy while emptying the dishwasher.”

Katie Doll of CBR shares, “It’s not that The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 is boring, but it’s not exactly designed to be a refined crime show. But it definitely tries its hardest to play the impostor.”

However, some positive reviews have surfaced. Collider‘s Tania Hussain praised Season 2 for being “a lot more confident in taking risks” compared to Season 1. She also notes that it “energetically improves” the series overall.
