New Tatiana Maslany Show Beats She-Hulk Reviews on Rotten Tomatoes

A new Apple TV series starring Tatiana Maslany has been met with largely positive reviews. Critics have praised the dark comedy’s style, tone, and structure, as well as Maslany’s performance. The positive reception has resulted in a strong score on Rotten Tomatoes, beating the one held by Maslany’s previous show, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

What critics are saying about Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed in reviews

Many critics have highlighted Maslany’s lead performance as the main draw of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. However, they have also praised its writing and pacing.

Sabrina Barr of Metro wrote that Maslany’s lead role drew her to the show. She added that the actress’s performance is “captivating” not only because she gave it her all, but also because her portrayal felt relatable.

Meanwhile, Kaiya Shunyata of RogerEbert.com praised the show’s strong pacing, saying it “never takes its foot off the gas,” as well as its star power, calling it “undeniable.” She also highlighted the show’s camerawork and presentation, suggesting it is the “most fascinating thriller of the year.” Additionally, she highlighted creator David J. Rosen’s writing, noting he took “various [creative] leaps” that managed to work instead of “[crumbling] under the weight of its own ambition.”

The Hollywood Reporter‘s Angie Han wrote that while the show wasn’t personally “the most [enjoyable]” for her, it did provide a good time through Tatiana Maslany’s performance and its “addictive combination of light comedy, unpredictable twists, and sharp character work.”

Geek Vibes Nation‘s Ricky Valero called the series “fantastic.” He added that while Maslany’s performance first grabbed his attention, Rosen’s writing got him invested. Valero continued, “Rosen’s strong understanding of balancing genres allows audiences to fully invest in the ride. Trust me, you don’t want to miss watching this show.”

However, not all reviews were positive. Slant Magazine‘s Michael Savio wrote that while Maslany’s performance was brilliant, her “commanding screen presence” was insufficient to save the “hodgepodge quality” of the show, which he argued wasn’t very “compelling.”

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed beats She-Hulk on Rotten Tomatoes

Thanks to its largely positive reception, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed currently holds an 88% “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Notably, this score is based on just 26 reviews, and may change as more come in. As of writing, this Rotten Tomatoes score is higher than She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s, which currently holds a score of 80%.

In addition to Maslany, the show stars Jake Johnson, Jessy Hodges, Jon Michael Hill, Charlie Hall, and Dolly de Leon, among others.
