An Oscar-winning filmmaker has revealed that he is developing three AI-generated movies. Roger Avary, who won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Pulp Fiction along with Quentin Tarantino, revealed during a recent interview that he has received funding for his Texas-based AI production company, General Cinema Dynamics.
Roger Avary reveals he’s developing three AI movies
Avary recently made an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience and spoke about the launch of his AI production banner. “I go out there and try to get stuff made, and it’s almost impossible,” he explained. “And then I built a technology company over the last year, basically making AI movies, and all of a sudden, boom, like that, money gets thrown at it.”
Avary continued, “All of a sudden, just by attaching the word AI and [the fact] that it’s a technology-based company, all of a sudden, investors came in, and we’re in production on three films now.”
On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Avary confirmed that he had three AI movies “in active” development. “My technology company General Cinema Dynamics is working closely with @ai_massive [Massive Studios] to bring feature-length AI productions to theatres,” he shared. “We have three features in active production.”
The three movies that Avary is making seemingly belong to separate genres. One is a “family Christmas movie that’ll be in theaters this holiday season,” and the second is a “faith-based movie for next Easter.” Meanwhile, the third is a “big romantic war epic.”
With the announcement, Avary joins the growing number of filmmakers who are embracing AI. Last month, On This Day … 1776, an AI-generated Revolutionary War series from Darren Aronofsky’s studio Primordial Soup, debuted on Time’s YouTube channel.
Avary also told Rogan that his company will be using “a proprietary stack of technology” for these projects. He later added that while “many people are against AI,” he considers it to be ultimately VFX. “It looks kind of amazing, actually,” he said. “I think, for independent cinema, and for the future of film and television production, these are super exciting times.”
