Tesla fans, there is major news coming your way, directly from Elon Musk’s desk. It looks like he is planning to raise the subscription prices for the brand’s unique Full Self-Driving software, which is a rather advanced driver assistance system. This actually manages braking, lane changing, steering, navigating, and even self-stopping for a red light under driver supervision.
It looks like this is all thanks to major upgrades and feature edits, which are guaranteed to make the software more capable by the day. According to reports from Business Insider, it seems like this could end up costing more than $100.
Elon Musk announces that FSD subscription price will rise in the future
To elaborate on this decision, Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO, explained this in a X (formerly Twitter) post on Friday, saying, “I should also mention that the $99/month for supervised FSD will rise as FSD’s capabilities improve. The massive value jump is when you can be on your phone or sleeping for the entire ride (unsupervised FSD).”
Earlier, most of Tesla’s models came with the Autopilot software as standard addition, available for all users. But it seems like things are about to change. After all, the company’s website now clearly states that Tesla will only offer Traffic-Aware Cruise Control as standard and nothing beyond that. Plus, the customers also had the option to buy the whole system with a one-time payment of $8,000 that too directly through the Tesla website.
However, even this option will no longer be available for anyone from February 14 onwards. It seems these movements have resulted in major backlash from some Tesla fans. Some of them even took to X to express their viewpoints. Some of them also explained how even a Toyota Corolla comes with the basic lane-keeping system, which Tesla doesn’t offer. Meanwhile, Tesla representatives haven’t responded to this backlash and the additional claims yet.
