Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence admitted that she still feels anxious before starting a new movie and usually prefers to get any intimate scenes out of the way at the very beginning of the process. She said it is easier for her to film sex scenes with strangers rather than with people she already knows.

She explained during her conversation at 92NY with Josh Horowitz that while filming her latest film, Die My Love, she began the shoot with a “naked sex tiger” scene alongside her co-star Robert Pattinson, whom she did not know at the time. The X-Men: First Class star said that being strangers made the experience easier for her.

“It was actually easier that way because Rob and I did not know each other, which is kind of better, you know?” Lawrence explained (via PEOPLE).

She went on to reference her experience from the Hunger Games franchise. “Like in Hunger Games, like me and Josh Hutcherson would have to kiss and that’s like… Imagine it,” Lawrence said. “You know, it’s weirder, and so yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable.”

Lawrence also noted that acting can sometimes feel “embarrassing.” She revealed that she initially found the “tiger” scenes directed by Die My Love filmmaker Lynne Ramsay to be very awkward. However, she said she eased into it after taking “interpretive dance lessons.”

“We got to Calgary like three weeks before we started shooting. Rob and I both [are] embarrassed very easily, and that was mortifying. It was, I mean, I’m not…a dancer, Rob’s [the] worst dancer,” she said. “And, and it was like, now blow like a tree, like it was just so embarrassing. So I think by the time she was like, ‘Yeah, get naked,’ we were just kind of like, ‘Okay, at least it’s not interpretive dance…’”

Die, My Love is available for streaming on Mubi.
