Brigitte Bardot, who was once considered one of the most recognizable symbols of the sexual revolution, passed away at her home in Saint-Tropez, France, on December 28, 2025.

The husband of the late actress revealed that she had undergone two surgeries following a cancer diagnosis and suffered from severe back pain before she passed away.

“I never left her side. I watched over her, supported by nurses who came discreetly every day,” Bernard d’Ormale, who married the actress in 1992, told Paris Match, “In the morning, when I served her the breakfast she loved. Like a child, she also had her afternoon snack: tea with milk and a croissant.”

He went on to recall the exact moment of her death. “I was half asleep beside her. I sat up when I heard her say ‘Pioupiou,’ that little nickname we used for each other in private, and then it was over,” he said. “A sense of peace and tranquility settled over her face. And she became incredibly beautiful again, just like in her youth. You wouldn’t have believed she was 91.”

Brigitte Bardot left behind a complex legacy. She was one of the most influential figures in the history of French cinema, having appeared in several era-defining films and worked with directors such as Louis Malle and Jean-Luc Godard. However, in her later years, she also attracted controversy due to repeated public statements that led to legal consequences related to racist and xenophobic remarks.

Bardot’s work and cultural impact continue to be recognized worldwide.
