Helen Siff, the veteran actress known for her roles in films like You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Hail, Caesar!, and The Karate Kid, has died in Los Angeles from complications of surgery on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The character actor was 88 years old.

Veteran film and TV star Helen Siff has died in Los Angeles of complications from surgery for a “long, painful illness.” The family of the 88-year-old actress announced the news in a statement.

“Those who worked with Helen knew her not just as a talented performer, but as someone who brought professionalism, dedication, and genuine kindness to every set,” it reads in part. “She understood that every role, no matter how large or small, was an opportunity to contribute something meaningful to the story being told” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

In a packed career that stretched for over five decades, Siff had over 70 acting credits in film and television. “She had the rare gift of making even the smallest part memorable,” her family further noted about her acting talent.

Siff started her career in 1981 as a waitress on Lou Grant. She continued starring in television roles like Cagney & Lacy, L.A. Law, Doogie Howser, M.D., and Karate Kid. Her other television credits include Knots Landing, Married … With Children, Ellen, Good Trouble, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, among many more.

Additionally, she also had other memorable film roles, including in Avildsen’s Rocky (1976), Big Top Pee-wee (1988), Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly’s Gold (1994), and The Disappearance of Mrs. Wu (2001).
