Ice Cube Reveals Major Casting Details About Friday 4

The long-awaited Friday 4 movie has received a small but major update from Ice Cube, eight months after the film was officially announced. While Last Friday remains in early development, the rapper, actor, and co-creator has shared where things currently stand, particularly when it comes to casting and creative direction.

What did Ice Cube say about Last Friday?

Earlier this year, New Line confirmed plans to revive the popular comedy franchise that began in 1995 and went on to become a cult classic. The announcement followed years of Ice Cube publicly pushing for a final part that would properly continue the story after Friday After Next, released in 2002.

Recently, when asked by Collider specifically about casting, Ice Cube indicated that no actors are officially signed on yet. However, he emphasized that the intention is to bring back as many familiar faces as possible, as long as it works organically within the story.

“You know, we’ve been putting it together. We want to give the fans what they expect. We want to bring as many characters back as we possibly can that make sense for the storyline. And, we’ve had fun putting it together.” At this stage, neither Chris Tucker nor Mike Epps has formally committed to the project, but Cube remains hopeful about reuniting some of the OG members.

Furthermore, Ice Cube addressed the production status of Friday 4, sharing that while progress has been slow, the project is where it needs to be. According to him, the team is taking its time to ensure Last Friday lives up to expectations and serves as a fitting ending to Craig Jones’ story.

One priority, above all else, is preserving the humor that defined the original films. “It’s going to be funny,” Cube said, stressing that comedy remains the foundation of the project.

The original Friday over time became deeply embedded in internet culture, and helped launch Chris Tucker into mainstream stardom while showing Ice Cube’s comedic range following his dramatic work in Boyz n the Hood. That legacy, built alongside co-writer DJ Pooh, is something Cube is keen to protect.
