Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones Clears the Air on CNN Boycott Rumors

Michael Douglas and his wife’s representatives have addressed speculation that they’re considering a CNN boycott. After their son, Dylan Douglas, had a political spat on CNN’s NewsNight, rumors claimed that Douglas and his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, felt the interview was “unfair and exploitative,” and had decided to boycott the network.

Amid ongoing rumors and allegations that the family is boycotting CNN, representatives for Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have issued their responses.

“The rumor that Catherine and Michael are boycotting CNN is news to them,” Zeta-Jones’ representative told Entertainment Weekly. “They support accurate reporting, which this rumor isn’t.” Later, Michael’s spokesperson also shut down the rumor. They said that the veteran actor has “no problem with going on or watching CNN.”

On November 10, Dylan Douglas appeared on CNN’s NewsNight, where he engaged in a heated exchange with conservative commentator Scott Jennings on political topics, such as the recent government shutdown and healthcare.

However, their debate resurfaced on November 30, when Rob Shuter, a British-American journalist and gossip columnist, claimed in his Substack post that Dylan’s parents are upset about the interview and are “fuming at CNN.” He added that it was a “‘never again, blacklist the whole network’ levels of furious.”

He further claimed that, “Catherine is absolutely livid. She’s telling friends the whole segment was ‘unfair and exploitative.’ Michael’s no calmer; he told people CNN ‘crossed a line,’ and trust me, he meant it.”

Shuter’s post quickly went viral with several mainstream outlets reporting on the rumors. Jennings later appeared on the Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain podcast, where he addressed the situation.

“I was surprised. I’m more than willing to apologize personally to Catherine Zeta-Jones over nice seafood if she wants to do it,” Jennings said.

“I think what happens generally with some of these folks is they exist in a very tight little bubble. They never really talk to Republicans or conservatives,” he added. “They don’t really get outside of their, you know, bubble where everyone’s telling them how smart and good-looking they are. Then they wind up on television with someone of a different persuasion, and it is surprising to them.”

Nonetheless, Jennings noted that Dylan was “really nice off the air” and that he felt “honored” to be on the show.
