Sylvester Stallone Reflects on Why He ‘Enjoyed’ Arnold Schwarzenegger Feud

Sylvester Stallone finally answered why he never disliked Arnold Schwarzenegger as a rival. The former Rocky star spilled the beans on a podcast.

Speaking to Marina Hyde of The Rest Is Entertainment, Stallone was asked about his long-running feud with former Terminator Schwarzenegger. The 80-year-old revealed that he actually enjoyed this intense competition. “You know, he likes to challenge, I like to challenge, and we’re both physical, and now who’s going to be like the vanguard, the leader in that genre?” Stallone said.

He continued, “So I do Rambo, he does Commando. It went back and forth, on and off screen. It was very contentious, trust me. Which I enjoyed.” He also mentioned that the rivalry actually shaped his career. “You know, we were very confrontational.”

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have now been in several movies together

Despite the heated rivalry early in their careers, the two Hollywood veterans eventually developed a great bond. Speaking to People last month, Stallone revealed, “We’re good friends now. We’ve gotten mellow.” It became evident three years ago when Schwarzenegger invited Stallone to one of his inaugurations as Governor of California, according to The Independent.

Both actors have worked together on multiple projects over the last two decades. Their first on-screen appearance in a movie came in 2010’s The Expendables. It grossed nearly $270 million worldwide against an $82 million budget.

Stallone and Schwarzenegger returned in The Expendables 2 and The Expendables 3 after the first part’s box office success. These two installments also performed well at the box office.

Besides the action-packed franchise, the two veterans also collaborated on 2013’s Escape Plane. The R-rated mystery thriller featured them as inmates inside a highly secured prison. Schwarzenegger’s character Emil ultimately helps Stallone’s Ray get back his freedom.
