Nicolas Cage’s Lords of War Trailer Previews Crime Movie Sequel With Bill Skarsgård

The first look at Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård has been revealed in the trailer for Lords of War. A sequel to the 2005 film Lord of War, the project was announced several years ago, with Vertical acquiring the film’s rights earlier this year. Cage will reprise his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov, who now has a son, played by Skarsgård.

Like the original film, Lords of War will be written and directed by Andrew Niccol. The sequel will follow Orlov and his son, Anton, as they face off in a battle over their legacy.

The story will explore a father-son rivalry fueled by power, ambition, and betrayal, while once again delving into the world of global arms dealing. Anton is described as a “ruthless mercenary mastermind” determined to destroy his father’s legacy.

What happened in the first Lord of War movie with Nicolas Cage?

The first Lord of War followed the long-running arms dealing career of Orlov, played by Cage. During the events of the film, Orlov is challenged by federal agent Jack Valentine, played by Ethan Hawke.

The film also starred Jared Leto as Vitaly, his younger brother, and Bridget Moynahan as Ava Fontaine, his supermodel wife. The film ended with Orlov being detained by Valentine and eventually finding his way back into the arms-dealing business.

While the film was released to mixed reviews, it has since become one of Cage’s most underrated roles. Besides Cage, Lords of War will star Bill Skarsgård, Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis. The film is produced by Cage, Niccol, Philippe Rousselet, and Fabrice Gianfermi. Both films are reportedly inspired by the life of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Lords of War is scheduled to arrive in theaters on January 22, 2027.
