Since the events of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has been steadily expanding the supernatural side of the MCU. Fans have expected this to culminate in a Midnight Sons project. Now, an industry scooper might have information about when fans can expect the show or movie.
Popular insider @MyTimeToShineH posted a picture of the Midnight Sons on X, saying that the characters are going to join the MCU in 2028. This will be after Secret Wars revamps the MCU, which means that the team could consist of all new characters. However, characters like Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, and Iron Fist might still be part of the lineup, albeit with slightly different histories.
However, it must be noted that there has been no official confirmation from Marvel Studios about the status of the Midnight Sons project.
Who is part of the Midnight Sons in Marvel Comics?
Midnight Sons, like most other comic book teams, have had multiple variations in their lineup. The original team consisted of two Ghost Riders (Danny Ketch and Johnny Blaze), Blade, and Morbius. The lineup has since included Man-Thing, Moon Knight, Wong, Doctor Voodoo, Doctor Strange, Wolverine, and Elsa Bloodstone, among a slew of others.
Man-Thing, Elsa Bloodstone, Moon Knight, Wong, Doctor Strange, and Blade all exist in the MCU in some capacity. Additional members of the team, such as Iron Fist, Wolverine, Werewolf by Night, and The Hood, have also appeared in the MCU. With the introduction of Mephisto, it is likely that the supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to come together to fight what could possibly be the next big villain in the franchise.
Looking ahead to 2028, Marvel is going to focus on its mutants, but it has also cast Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider. Given the movie’s current release date of July 28, 2028, it would not be surprising if Marvel decides to set up Midnight Sons through the movie. This could also lead into a third Doctor Strange movie. Wong already serves as the Sorcerer Supreme of the MCU and has been recruiting members since Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
If Marvel does decide to go ahead with a Midnight Sons project in 2028, the groundwork for such a project already seems to be in place for the franchise.
