Jessica Chastain & Jeremy Strong Exchange Hilarious Texts After Box Office Showdown

Jessica Chastain and Jeremy Strong are poking fun at the contrasting box office performances of their latest movies. Chastain shared a screenshot of their conversation on her Instagram story after her Other Mommy outperformed Strong’s The Social Reckoning at the box office.

Strong sent Chastain a screenshot of a news headline reading, “Other Mommy Spanks The Social Reckoning at the box office.” Chastain responded, “Omg,” before commenting on the pictures accompanying the report. The actress wrote, “These pics are hysterical,” before adding, “You look SO SAD!” Strong teased her back, saying, “You look INSANE,” turning the box office comparison into a lighthearted exchange.

Other Mommy scores $27.5 million as The Social Reckoning opens to $5.5 million

Despite receiving poor reviews from critics and audiences, Other Mommy delivered a strong box office debut. The Universal Pictures release earned around $27.5 million from 3,365 North American theaters during its opening weekend.

The horror film follows a young girl who encounters a sinister supernatural creature that takes the form of her mother. It received a D+ CinemaScore and a 15% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its estimated $19 million budget made its opening a win for the horror genre and producer Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Other Mommy also opened in 50 international markets, bringing its global debut to more than $45.2 million. Jim Orr, Universal’s domestic distribution head, said the movie attracted an even split of male and female moviegoers, with most aged 18 to 34.

Meanwhile, The Social Reckoning earned around $5.5 million from 2,606 North American theaters. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the legal thriller follows a Facebook whistleblower who leaks incriminating company documents to a Wall Street Journal reporter.

The biographical film received a B- CinemaScore from audiences and a 55% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its predecessor, The Social Network, opened to more than $22 million in 2010. It went on to earn over $224 million worldwide. The new film, starring Strong alongside Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White, reportedly cost about $30 million to produce, excluding marketing and promotion.

While The Social Reckoning faces a tougher start, Other Mommy has established an early box-office lead.
