What do we see in the A Talent for Murder trailer?
A Talent for Murder follows a young man from a New York publisher who is sent to Switzerland. There, he must seek out renowned novelist Patricia Highsmith and convince her to write one final installment of her Tom Ripley series. However, his persuasion tactics begin to grow increasingly suspicious.
Highsmith was a real-life acclaimed author who penned the influential 1955 psychological thriller novel, The Talented Mr. Ripley. Additionally, Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1951 film Strangers on a Train was adapted from Highsmith’s debut novel of the same name.
The trailer opens with a shot of Helen Mirren as an aged Patricia Highsmith smoking. Meanwhile, a chilling tagline appears on screen saying, “Some crime stories can only come from the most dangerous of minds.”
Then the clip introduces Alden Ehrenreich as Edward Ridgeway, the mysterious man from New York who has come to persuade Patricia to write a Tom Ripley story again. However, it soon becomes clear that Edward’s intentions are not what they seem.
As the pair begin to craft a story, Edward appears to be hiding something more sinister. What follows is a series of intriguing vignettes from the movie, showing Edward and Patricia’s dangerous collaboration. It leads to a terrifying outcome as secrets begin to unravel.
In addition to Mirren and Ehrenreich, A Talent for Murder also stars Olivia Cooke and Juliet Stevenson.
