A Harry Potter star has opened up about using OnlyFans to support her family. She said the decision was difficult at first but later helped her feel more confident.
Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in the franchise, joined the platform last year. She explained that acting work alone was not enough to cover her family’s expenses.
On the UK talk show This Morning, she said, “People just assume I’m rich and I have loads of money and no I don’t. It was embarrassing because on a certain level, I would have really liked to get a job. But you know what it’s like, you have kids. It costs so much for childcare.”
The 39-year-old actress said that regular acting work can be difficult to find. She also described OnlyFans as a “weird job” while raising four children.
She added, “It’s a very small proportion of people who can work regularly and I have done the odd job here and I have managed to keep afloat for 18 years. And then it just came to a moment a couple of years ago where I was like – Oh yeah, I really don’t know what I would do, and this was an option.”
How OnlyFans became more than a financial lifeline for Jessie Cave
Cave said the platform eventually gave her more than financial support. She found value in connecting with people worldwide and became more comfortable with her appearance.
She said that Lily Allen and Kate Nash inspired her decision. Both musicians have used the platform to earn additional income.
Her content is non-explicit and focuses on her very long hair. She said, “The experience definitely made me more confident as a woman. I’ve always just been very awkward, very, very weird. And this has kind of made me be like – Oh, I can actually just do a photo of myself and try and look hot. That’s quite nice, which I’m in control of.”
Cave previously revealed that she earned £15,000 in one day on OnlyFans. She also said her earnings during a year on the platform exceeded what she made throughout her acting career.
She told The Times on August 7, “I thought I’d make five grand, be on it for a few months and it would buy me time to work out what we’re going to do. But it’s now been over a year and a half and it’s genuinely saved our lives.”
Now, the Harry Potter star continues performing in one-woman shows alongside her online work. She said she wants to feel less shame about earning money through her art.
