Digger: Tom Cruise Movie’s Budget Is Higher Than Previously Reported

Tom Cruise‘s upcoming movie Digger reportedly has a bigger budget than expected. The 2026 satirical dark comedy is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.

Earlier, Puck reported that the Tom Cruise-starring 2026 film would have a budget of $125 million. But recently, Variety reported that the film will have a $130 million budget. Digger, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. In the recent past, major Warner Bros. movies have failed to perform well at the box office, which now puts Digger more under the spotlight for the studio.

The End of Oak Street released on August 14, 2026, and earned $47 million in the first four days, per The Numbers. Before this, Supergirl and The Bride hit the screens on June 26, 2026, and March 6, 2026, respectively. These movies were also disappointing for Warner Bros., as they earned $126,275,637 and $23,944,025, respectively, per The Numbers.

While the movie already carried a $125 million budget, the newly reported figure is $5 million higher than previously stated. Despite that, Warner Bros. will need the film to perform well to justify its budget, especially following the studio’s recent string of setbacks. Alongside directing, Iñárritu is also the film’s screenwriter and producer.

What is Tom Cruise’s Digger movie about?

The synopsis of Digger, per IMDB, reads, “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Alongside Cruise in the titular lead, Digger Rockwell, the cast also features Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, and Emma D’Arcy.

Reflecting on his character for the film, Tom Cruise, per Variety, stated, “It took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell.” The director, on the other hand, praised Cruise and stated, “We know that he’s fearless — the stunts, the planes, the jumps. But I have to say, embodying this character is another kind of fearless.”

Warner Bros released the film’s trailer on July 13, 2026.
