The updated runtime of the Digger movie is not what Tom Cruise fans expected. Earlier, it was announced that Digger would mark a milestone for Cruise, as one of the longest movies of his career. However, a new runtime has been added for the satirical black comedy movie.
According to AMC Theatres, Digger will run for 2 Hours and 8 Minutes. This is a lot shorter than the previously reported runtime of 2 hours and 40 minutes. That said, it is noteworthy that the runtime can change until its theatrical release in October this year.
Nevertheless, Digger won’t be part of Cruise’s longest-running movies; he has acted in the ones that run past the expected 2-hour-40-minute mark. These include Magnolia, with a runtime of 3 hours and 8 minutes, and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which lasts for 2 hours and 50 minutes.
What else do we know about Digger?
The Top Gun star is set to take on the role of Digger Rockwell in the upcoming movie. According to the synopsis, Rockwell is the wealthiest and most powerful man in the world. However, he must help save the world from a global ecological disaster caused by his negligence.
To prepare for the role, Tom Cruise sat through an extensive transformation, making the Oscar nominee almost unrecognizable. Alongside him, Digger also includes Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, and Burn Gorman.
The movie is helmed by the four-time Oscar-winning Alejandro González Iñárritu. This will be the director’s second English feature film, after The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Iñárritu has also written the screenplay for Digger along with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolás Giacobone.
The director and actor also serve as producers alongside Mary Parent and Michael Sharp. Executive producers include Dinelaris, Berman, Natalia Gonzalez, Emmanuel Lubezki, and Joshua Grode.
Digger will be released in theaters on October 2, 2026.
