A new Disney+ movie is making its way to audiences, helmed by an acclaimed Oscar and Emmy-nominated director. The latest teaser trailer also shared a major update on its release date.
What is the new Disney+ movie from Leslie Iwerks?
Disney+ will release a new documentary movie, Disney Worldbuilders, helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Leslie Iwerks. She’s best known for receiving an Academy Award nomination for her 2006 short documentary, Recycled Life. It was nominated in the Best Documentary (Short Subject) category.
Interestingly, Iwerks recently directed another Disney documentary movie, titled Disneyland Handcrafted. It came out earlier this year and is available to stream on Disney+.
As for Disney Worldbuilders, the new documentary movie will shed light on “how Disney’s most beloved stories are translated from the screen into one-of-a-kind, real-world experiences that people never want to leave.”
The official description for Disney Worldbuilders reads, “Filled with Disney Legends, award-winning filmmakers, and visionary leaders across The Walt Disney Company, director Leslie Iwerks sits down with some of the key figures who have helped shape many of Disney’s most enduring stories. Through personal reflections on their earliest inspirations, pivotal moments along the way, and the formative Disney memories they’ve carried with them over the years, these storytellers share the experiences that have helped shape their creative journeys.”
Throughout the documentary, viewers will hear directly from some of the most iconic creators, including Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, James Cameron, Pete Docter, and more, about their favorite films, characters, and attractions. The movie will also provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes look from some of the most anticipated Disney projects.
Disney Worldbuilders will also feature insights from notable figures associated with Disney, namely Bob Iger (former CEO and Senior Advisor, The Walt Disney Company, and incoming Disney Legend), Jennifer Lee (Academy Award-winning writer/director of Frozen), and Josh D’Amaro (CEO, The Walt Disney Company).
Fans will get the first official look at the special documentary during the upcoming D23 event in California.
Disney Worldbuilders will release in August 2026 on Disney+. A specific date has yet to be confirmed for the documentary.
