Peacock expands its library with the addition of Paramount Pictures’ acclaimed Tom Cruise movies, which were released during the 2000s. Both films received Fresh scores from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
What Tom Cruise movies are now on Peacock?
Beginning today, Cruise’s 2005 sci-fi action film War of the Worlds and 2008 satirical action comedy Tropic Thunder are officially available to stream on Peacock. These movies were recognized by multiple award-giving bodies at the time of their respective releases. These included three Oscar nominations for War of the Worlds and two Golden Globe nominations for Tropic Thunder.
War of the Worlds was directed by Steven Spielberg, based on H.G. Wells’ 1898 novel of the same name. In the film, Cruise played a father desperately trying to protect his children during a sudden alien invasion. The cast also included Dakota Fanning, Mirando Otto, Tim Robbins, Justin Chatwin, Lisa Ann Walter, Amy Ryan, Morgan Freeman, Channing Tatum, Yul Vazquez, Rick Gonzalez, and more. It has a 76% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Dockworker Ray Ferrier struggles to build a positive relationship with his two children, Rachel and Robbie. When his ex-wife, Mary Ann, drops them off at Ferrier’s house, it seems as though it will be just another tension-filled weekend. However, when electromagnetic pulses of lightning strike the area, the strange event turns out to be the beginning of an alien invasion, and Ferrier must now protect his children as they seek refuge,” reads the official synopsis.
Tropic Thunder was directed by Ben Stiller, who co-wrote the screenplay with Justin Theroux and Etan Cohen. In the 2008 comedy, Cruise hilariously transformed into Les Grossman, a balding, foul-mouthed studio executive. The film also starred Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black, Jay Baruchel, Nick Nolte, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Matthew McConaughey, Brandon T. Jackson, and more. It currently holds a 82% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Tugg Speedman, pampered action superstar, sets out for Southeast Asia to take part in the biggest, most expensive war movie produced, but soon after filming begins, he and his co-stars, Oscar-winner Kirk Lazarus, comic Jeff Portnoy, and the rest of the crew, must become real soldiers when fighting breaks out in that part of the jungle,” reads the synopsis.
