Google Glass On Sale in UK for £1000

Google has released its Google Glass eyewear in the UK, following the wearable tech’s US release.

The prototype version of the Android-powered hardware, which is being marketed towards developers rather than consumers, is being sold for a hefty £1000. It also comes with an age rating of 18, so any pre-teen developers out there should keep that grand tucked away in their wallet.

While the Google Glass has received no small amount of negative attention in the US, it may still prove to be a hit among the tech-savvy masses. However, it seems unlikely that Glass will take off in the UK, given the more reserved nature of the region. There’s no doubt that Google has done its market research, but Glass has already faced criticism from various British organizations. The DfT (Department for Transport) has already raised concerns that the Glass will distract drivers wearing the tech, with Google now having to work upon developing a minimized UI that will legally allow the Glass to be used by those operating a vehicle. The Vue cinema chain has also prohibited customers from wearing the Glass whilst sitting inside one of its theaters, following concerns that it will allow movies to be recorded and pirated.

On the other hand, supermarket chain Tesco’s is putting its support behind the Glass, conceptualizing an app that will allow it be implemented by customers of its stores.
