Apparently There’s A Secret Room Behind Mount Rushmore With Awesome Stuff Hidden Inside

And now the cat’s out of the bag. Here’s hoping I got that saying right.

Mount Rushmore, one of the greatest sculptures ever made, resides in South Dakota, and of course shows the faces of four past presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. But there is more to that piece of granite than just those faces, as there is apparently a secret room hidden behind the massive heads.

Here’s a tad of a history lesson: Mount Rushmore was made by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, with the project beginning in 1927 (ended in 1941). Now Gutzon wanted this project to showcase even more presidents, but unfortunately his plan was rejected because of a lack of money. So what did good old Gutzon do instead? Well, he just started work on a Hall of Records that would be used to store important documents to show this country’s future generations. Pretty damn awesome.

More rough news, though: Gutzon died before the room could be finished, and it was left unfinished for about 60 years until it was later revived and finally completed.

So what’s inside the room? Pretty amazing stuff: the Bill of Rights, the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, a biography of Borglum and descriptions of each president featured on the monument. There is a hope that thousands of years from now humans (but probably aliens) will discover this room and learn about our history.

If you want to check out this room, you’re out of luck, because it is off limits to tourists since the location of the room is hard to reach.

That is, unless…
