U2 has made its way to the Great White North as part of their international Innocence + Experience Tour and are in the midst of four Montreal shows, so what better time than now for frontman Bono to meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to discuss very carious social issues?
According to The Canadian Press, Bono will be talking to the PM about topics such as maternal and child health aid projects in Africa and elsewhere. The Prime Minister’s Office said Bono directly requested the meeting with Harper, and will also be joining up with NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, according to officials from both parties.
U2 released their 13th studio album, Songs of Innocence, in September of last year, kicking off the tour to support the project this past May.
In 2007, Harper refused to meet with Bono at a G8 summit in Germany, saying, “Meeting celebrities isn’t my shtick,” (CBC News) but since that time Harper has met with the likes of home-grown talent like Bryan Adams and Randy Bachman.
Mulcair is expected to meet with Bono after question period to discuss the rock star’s organization ONE, which aims to end extreme poverty, an NDP source told CBC News.
