Sometimes otherwise reasonable people make dumb mistakes and you feel a little sorry for them, but then sometimes dumb people make dumb mistakes and you feel like fist-bumping the sky when they receive their just desserts. This is one of the latter occasions.
A trio of Leicester City FC players filmed themselves partaking in an orgy in Thailand, with the video footage now having surfaced on the ‘net. While that footage wouldn’t be so incriminating in and of itself (though it would still inevitably lead to a slap on the wrists and an insincere apology from the young men), it gets immeasurably worse for all involved when you consider that the players, striker Tom Hopper, goalkeeper Adam Smith and club manager Nigel Pearson’s son James, were being a bit racist and otherwise incredibly rude to the Thai women they were engaging in the orgy with.
Along with one of the players calling one of the women a “slit eye,” they also make frequent derogatory references to their appearance, with them essentially coming across like intolerable scumbags. Fortunately they’re intolerable scumbags who are also a little dim, as they decided to share this video footage with a few friends presumably under the assumption that no one would sell video footage of three Premier League players being complete arseholes to the UK’s newspapers, because that sort of thing doesn’t happen every other week.

As if things couldn’t get any worse for the players, the whole situation gets even more sticky when you consider that Leicester City’s sponsors are the Tourism Authority of Thailan, who have only recently renewed a third season with the club. An even bigger concern for them, though, will be the thoughts of Leicester’s Thai owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who will undoubtedly not be best pleased that three of the club’s players took part in what the Mirror is describing a “racist orgy” (not to make light of the situation, but I fail to see how an orgy can be inherently racist).
Leicester released an official statement regarding the footage, saying: “The Board of Leicester City Football Club is deeply concerned about an incident involving three of our young professionals during a recent trip to Thailand.
“Our players at every level are expected to behave as representatives and ambassadors for our Football Club, both on official Club duty and in their personal lives, so we treat their conduct extremely seriously. Following a preliminary meeting in consultation with the three players earlier today, the players involved in the incident are now returning to the UK, in advance of the rest of the squad.
“Tom Hopper, James Pearson and Adam Smith would like to convey their sincere apologies for their behaviour – to the women involved in the incident, to the Club and its owners, to the Club’s fans and to their families. A formal process of investigation will be undertaken with the players in conjunction with their representatives and, as such, no further comment can be made at this stage.
“Leicester City remains wholly committed to promoting equality in football and in wider society and to our players recognising their responsibilities as role models to young people.”
If Leicester are truly “committed to promoting equality in football”, then all three of these morons should be ousted from the club. Given the content of the video footage, there is simply no other reasonable course of action.
